A Journey Towards Manhood

As your son’s primary role model and mentor, your interaction with him is continually shaping his definition of what his purpose in life will be. What have you taught him about using his physical attributes, his intellect, his emotions and the spiritual aspects of his life?

Why?

When I look at our culture today I can only identify one event that represents this passage into manhood. The entire event only takes about 10 seconds and requires a walk of 15 to 30 yards. You start at one end as an adolescent and when you reach the other end you're suppose to be a man. That event is High School graduation.

The second reason is what Joe Erchman label 'False Masculinity". We tend to value our sons based on their athletic abilities, their sexual conquests and their financial success. When these messages echo the loudest in our sons' lives is during their teen years. My belief is that none of these have anything to do with being a man.

The final reason I feel this experience is important for fathers and their sons is that if you haven't developed a healthy relationship with your son by their early teens you may either never have one or you won't have one until your son is willing to let you into his life on his terms.

Journey to Manhood is designed to enhance your leadership role in your son’s life. Together with other fathers and their sons you will explore what it mean to be a man, how to communicate effectively, how to resolve conflicts in a win/win manner and the importance of building healthy relationships

“Bill Walker’s Father/Son Retreat was an incredible weekend of bonding with my 14-year-old son, Michael.  A well-orchestrated mix of group activities, one-on-one father / son projects, and insightful teaching and discussion – all far removed from the distractions of our busy lives – created an environment for discovery and relationship building that both father and son silently crave but so seldom experience in our culture. The value we received far out-shadowed any investment we could have made.”
